Testimony from Shenea Strader
One of our club's founding members and past president
I graduated from college in 2005 and decided to get started with my master’s degree right away. After my undergraduate pursuit was completed, I felt a bit lost…like something was missing. I had been a very active collegian and took full advantage of the clubs and organizations that were a part of campus life. I found that while my master’s program was challenging, I needed something else to supplement my life. No sooner had these thoughts started entering my mind, than I received an email from a college friend who was starting a Rotaract Club.
Joining a Rotaract Club seemed to be a natural progression of sorts. The opportunity couldn’t have come at a better time as I was looking to fill that void in my life that had been left after graduating college. I’ve been a member now since 2006 and it’s been one of the most rewarding experiences I’ve ever had. I’m grateful for every project, every lesson learned and every connection I’ve made. This unique group has given me the opportunity to grow both as a leader and an individual. I’ve become a more well rounded and humble person because of Rotaract.
My membership has given me so much more than I could ever begin to contribute, but you better bet I’ll try. If you’ve never belonged to a club before or if you’ve belonged to many, if you don’t know much about Rotary or you know a lot, if you’re between the ages of 18-30, this club is for you. Take a chance on Rotaract…you’ll be glad you did!

Testimony from Courtney Pino
Current Vice President
I joined the Rotaract Club of Reno when I was 18 years old and it has had such a profound impact on my life. Throughout my years in this organization, I have been involved in many community and international service projects that have changed who I am as a person. Being a member of this club has helped me see what the important things in life are, such as service above self. Rotaract has also had a huge impact on my professional development growth from a college student to a young professional. Without the knowledge I have gained from this club, I would not be where I am today. If there is any advice I can give to a someone on their way to becoming a young professional, it would be to join a Rotaract club in your area and experience all the joys and benefits this amazing organization has to offer.
Testimony from Hillary Murphy
Current Club Secretary

I became involved in Rotary when I was young. I started with Rotary Speech Contests. Later, I received the opportunity to participate in RYLA, a rotary youth leadership camp for high school students. After leaving camp I expressed desire to participate in service. Years later, I was contacted by another Rotarian looking for former RYLA campers to become counselors for a similar camp for younger students. I joined Rotaract on the recommendation of a Rotarian who knew of my love of service. Through joining Rotaract, I’ve had the opportunity to participate in a wide variety of service projects and community fundraising. I’ve also had the opportunity to share my passion with fellow members and meet some really great friends. Rotaract has provided me connections for service with a variety of outside programs from returning to RYLA as a counselor to share my experience to becoming a Big Sister with Big Brothers Big Sisters. I’ve learned through Rotaract the opportunity for service is endless.
